Pharmacology, which is a study of "health care through drugs", is currently being questioned for its meaning of existence in terms of both research and education as experimental techniques become more common. In addition to redefining the mission of pharmacology according to the times, changes based on "dynamic capabilities", which are the ability to flexibly change organizations by adapting to environmental changes, are required. In particular, in order to achieve the goal of pharmacology education, "educating doctors who can use drugs correctly," it is important to have the ability to correctly analyze the results obtained from medication and judge its appropriateness. Evaluation of observed symptoms and lesions identified in biopsy tissue obtained from patients is difficult to judge without an understanding of the time course of pharmacological action based on the different pharmacokinetic properties of each drug. In the future, it will be essential to have a "Pharmaco-pathologist" who can attend CPC (Clinico-Pathological Conference) as a "medical person who can handle drugs correctly based on an understanding of pathology". This training of pharmacopathologists corresponds to "dynamic capability" in pharmacology education. Regarding the above concept, how should we proceed with the collaboration between pharmacology and pathology, the two major basic medicines that can be said to be the two wheels of a vehicle that support drug discovery science and clinical medicine?
This session will be held in order to deepen the discussion by speakers from the Japanese Pharmacology Society and the Japanese Society of Pathology toward the realization of pharmacology-pathology collaboration in future medical research and education.
